New York Region Overview
Located in the Northeast, NY (New York) is a world-famous state, known for its vibrant New York City, which is a major cultural and financial center of the nation. With the third largest population in the country (at about twenty million), and a status as the twenty-seventh largest, New York has a high population density, heavily concentrated in New York City. In fact, about 40 percent of the state's population resides in New York City. As the main point of entry for immigrants to the United States for many years, New York is a diverse region with a wide variety of cultures represented.
